Ilhama

Teresa Hamlin

Ilhama is a sweet woman, who lives a quiet life as a house wife in the region of Qebele. When she married, she moved into her husband’s house, and took up residence with his parents. Over time, her mother-in-law taught her how to knit. They enjoyed knitting together and passing the time, making knick-knacks and clothing items for her two children. Now that her children are older, she has more “free” time. Knitting for Azerbaijani Socks has enabled her to have some personal money to take care of her own needs. As she said, “I knit for myself.” She enjoys the peaceful time at home, being productive through knitting.

Ilhama loves to knit socks with flowers on them, reminding us of the wildflowers that blanket the mountains of Qebele in May. Her hands produce objects of beauty.
