Aliya is from the the remote village Qalaxudat in the Quba region.
Aliya and Leyla knit their socks together. Aliya is a brains behind the designs and her sister-in-law, Leyla, knits the heel part that is less complicated. Aliya is unmarried and lives with her brother and his family and her niece and two nephews that she lives with are very attached and the boys tease her endlessly to show their affection. Because of lots of traditional expectations they threw a big wedding including providing a large dowry for their daughter when she got married. This put them in huge debt and years later they are still knitting to return these loans.
