The yarn is all “preshrunk” and can be washed in the washing machine. Line-dry items with suede soles.

All sizes are approximate, but are measured to fit tightly. The range of size is due to being handmade. Each knitter knits with their own style, so some stitches are tighter than others. However, all socks are checked for quality control, and all are knit with excellence.

We generally recommend getting a size that fits snuggly at first because there will be some natural stretching with wear (socks with suede will not stretch as much). If you prefer a looser fit, buy a half-size up.

You can return the socks in the original condition up to 30 days after purchase for a refund or exchange in size. Please contact us, and we will give you the shipping information.

Our office/storefront in Azerbaijan has hundreds of other colors, designs, and sizes to choose from. All of these are available to you, if you are willing to be patient with us! Here’s how it works: you send us a message with a general description of what you want (size, color preference, etc). We would check our stock and send you pictures of what we have available. You can select what you like from these pictures. Then, we would either ship the package from Azerbaijan (averaging 3-5 weeks for delivery). Or, we would find a courier to carry the package to the USA for us and ship it from there. Shipping for these specially ordered items is included in the price.

We supply our knitters with 50% wool, 50% acrylic yarn that comes from Turkey. The women use this yarn to knit socks with their own (traditional) designs. This is why we have such a variety of designs to choose from.

We use natural, genuine cow suede for the soles of our socks. We hire a group of women to hand cut the suede to size and punch the holes in them. Another group of women sew the suede onto the bottom of the sock using waxed thread.

Other knitted items, such as the ornaments or finger puppets, are made out of a variety of yarns- this allows us to utilize our scrap yarn efficiently. We also use recycled yarn for this purpose.

Azerbaijan is a country in
Central Asia. Azerbaijan was part of the former Soviet Union, and is bordered by the Caspian Sea to the East, Iran to the South, Armenia and Georgia to the West and Russia to the North. This small country is a delightful blend of modern and ancient, of East and West. It is also beautiful in its natural diversity and ecological landscapes: the Caspian Sea, deserts, the Caucasus Mountains, mud volcanoes, natural gas, forests, and fertile farming land, this country has it all. It is worth seeing, please come and visit us!

Although we are not officially 'fair trade certified', we ensure that all of our women are paid at a rate that is higher than local-market value. All supplies are provided for our knitters (yarn, needles, etc). We pay the knitters per piece that they knit, so that they can work in their homes at their own pace. We do not require quotas for the knitters.

We know each knitter personally, and strive to make our interactions with them more than just business transactions. We listen to their stories, offer encouragement, and give practical help when needed. We have an “emergency fund” set up for the women to help with unexpected medical, funeral or other emergency expenses.
